The scoring wing says he is champing at the bit for next season to begin

Heading into his second season with Melbourne United, scoring wing Tanner Krebs is eager to hit the ground running in NBL25.

In NBL24, Krebs registered career highs in total points, rebounds, steals, blocks and three-pointers, while cutting down on his turnovers.

A microwave scorer, the St Mary’s product showcased his ability to put the ball in the hole across stretches of United’s campaign, including a 14-game span from Rounds 9 until 19 where he averaged 8.5 points per game on 45.7% shooting from beyond the arc.

Always looking to improve, Krebs is now applying his trade in the NBL1 South with the Sandringham Sabres, where he has quickly established himself as the most efficient scoring Australian in the competition.

Playing alongside NBL24 teammates Shea Ili, Tom Koppens and Campbell Blogg, and under Rhys Carter and David Barlow, Krebs is averaging 22.4 points per game on 50/40/90 shooting splits.

Speaking to MU Media, Krebs spoke about why he made the decision to sign with the Sabres, and his hunger to improve across the offseason.

“A big reason why I wanted to play at Sandy was the strong connection with United," he explained.

“Obviously having Barlow and Rhys there, as well as Shili and the young fellas, I just wanted to get some extra reps in the United system and hope that could translate into the upcoming seasons.

“Winning games is priority number one with this Sandy team, but I’m also looking at improving my game in the areas that the coaching staff have identified with me.

“On this team my role is to be aggressive and to be a scorer, and it’s a credit to the guys on this team and our coaching staff for putting me in positions to succeed.”

Having come so close to taking home the ultimate prize of an NBL Championship, Krebs is hyper-focussed on being ready to perform when called upon, no matter the moment.

“I want to pick up some momentum and take that into NBL25. I want to be a guy that people can count on to put the ball in the basket, especially in crucial moments.

“I’m already raring to go, and there’s no question the other guys are feeling the same. Right now we’re all putting in the extra work to be even better come next season.”

Krebs makes up part of United’s contingent of returning players, including Chris Goulding, Matthew Dellavedova, Shea Ili, Luke Travers, Kyle Bowen, Flynn Cameron and Rob Loe.
